Simon Harvey is an Information Security Professional of over 25 years, starting out in Research in the UK and then into Strategy & Architecture Consulting, Pre-Sales and End-User Organisation Architecture roles across France, the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific and Australasia.
He is also an accredited Mental Health First Aid Instructor.
Throughout his career he as observed, and also himself personally experienced, others going through various stages of poor mental health and illness. He has taken up an interest in driving out how we, as an Industry and Community, need to uplift ourselves to identify, support and assist, those going through such phases in life.
He is a Queenslander first and an Australian second, but taking on his most challenging task of being a completely devoted husband, a Daddy to their mini-CyberWarrior in-training (who also “likes to Cyber Cyber"), and scratching post for the newly-acquired kitten.
Tutorial: Mental Health First Aid training (Standard MHFA Full Course)
This is the full 2-day Standard Mental Health First Aid course is for any interested adult, no pre-requisites are necessary except a willingness to learn and an interest in the topic.
You will learn how to assist an adult who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence-based action plan.
This course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals.
Learn about the signs and symptoms of common and disabling mental health problems in adults, how to provide initial help, where and how to get professional help, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide first aid in a crisis situation.
This is an education and training course, to learn how to give first aid to others, is very intensive, and relatively fast-paced. It's not a support group, however, please contact me for a confidential discussion if you have a history of mental health issues so we can assess any risks of attendance appropriately.
This course, which is usually available in a paid-for capacity, is offered to the community as an AusCERT Tutorial as both the Presenter and AusCERT are passionate about Mental Health in our community. Simon has spoken on Mental Health issues in InfoSec multiple conferences including AusCERT, AISA, Bsides Brisbane, SABSA COSAC and CrikeyCon.
